Sprelly to host ‘pop-up tasting’ Sunday morning

Adrian Silversmith won the People’s Choice Award at this past fall’s Made in FredVA business-plan competition for his planned Sprelly eatery.
On Sunday morning the people will have an opportunity to choose one of Sprelly’s food offerings.
Sprelly, which is focused on gourmet peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, will host a “pop-up tasting” between 10 a.m. and noon Sunday at Spaces Design Studio’s office at 1004 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg. Samples and sandwiches for order will be available.
Silversmith is participating in this weekend Startup Weekend Fredericksburg event at Germanna Community College in Spotsylvania County. He and a team are working to hone the concept of Sprelly, which Silversmith wants to open as soon as possible in the Fredericksburg area.
Part of the Startup Weekend process is validating the business idea with customers. Sunday’s tasting will be an opportunity to do just that.

‘Smooch the Pooch’ and Share Some Love with the Fredericksburg SPCA

A kid friendly kissing booth---I say YES!!

The kissing booth returns to Dog Krazy in February, when local dog owners will supervise their human-friendly companions in providing puppy kisses for $1 each.  All proceeds will benefit the Fredericksburg Regional SPCA, a no-kill humane care center.

“I had that kissing booth built five years ago when we rescued the Bullmastiff pictured,” said Dog Krazy owner Nancy Guinn.

The dog's owners brought her to the vet and decided to euthanize her instead of paying for her needed ACL surgery, Guinn said.  “We took her in as a foster dog and held a fundraiser to pay for the surgery.  She raised over $1,000 giving kisses for donations.”

Nova is now an adopted member of the Guinn family.  “She was returned to us three times after three different adoptions,” Guinn said.  “She was perfect in our home, but a jerk in the three adoptive homes.  She let us know that she was meant to be with us!”

Since then, Guinn holds an annual “Smooch the Pooch” fundraiser for various animal rescues.

“We are looking for humans and human friendly dogs to sit in the booth in front of my shop on Feb. 15 and 16 and give kisses for donations,” Guinn said.  There are 15-minute time slots available.  If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Nancy at Dog Krazy, 307 William St., 540-373-4168.

Sunday Brunch at Jake & Mikes

I woke up this morning craving a good Sunday Brunch. My mom used to take my sister and I to Hot Shops for Sunday Brunch when we were little girls and I looked forward to it every week. I remember how much I loved getting the crapes smothered in strawberry sauce---delish!!

So, this morning I decided I was going to make it my mission (well my hubby's mission) to find us a new Sunday Brunch hot spot--and boy did we find it. We decided to try Jake & Mikes on William's Street. The restaurant itself has a warm--cozy--family feel and the food is AMAZING!! I had the seafood crapes and they were incredible. I can't wait to go back.

Check them out!!
